JAMMU, Aug 24: A seminar on career guidance and educational opportunities for youth was organised by Sandeep Chaudhary, SP South Jammu at MAM College. The seminar was attended by hundreds of students.  SP South addressed the students in detail about various career and educational opportunities available to them during graduation and after graduation. He stated that the main focus areas of the seminar was various examinations conducted after graduation for different jobs and scholarship schemes.
While interacting with students, Chaudhary, an IPS officer emphasised on the importance of exposure for the students. Most of the competitive exams for jobs and admission to institutes of higher education are conducted in a very merit-based system. The students coming from rural background face difficulty in these exams due to the lack of exposure. They have to compete with students from elite backgrounds of good schooling and famous colleges. The only way to get through tough exams for students from humble backgrounds is to prepare themselves with hard work and dedication,” he said.
Exposure can come through different means like travel, books, magazines, movies and seminars etc. Students from Jammu can use their smartphones and internet to travel the places through virtual means even when they can not afford to actually travel to such places, he said and added that the travel documentaries produced by Rick Steves are available on Youtube for free. The importance of understanding and appreciating the relation between travel and geographical knowledge was emphasised upon. Travelling and knowing about new places opens human mind to greater things.
He said books can play a very vital role in grooming young people for their bright futures. The SP named books like The Alchemist which are available at very cheap prices in market.
The interaction also included the importance of understanding student politics and its role in the larger politics. Debate and discussion on various issues of the day is beauty of Indian democracy. Students should not shy away from debate and discussion but that should be done in a very civilized manner.
