Soz takes up chopper service to Zanskar with Antony

NEW DELHI,  Jan 2: Former Union Minister and PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today took up the issue of airlifting of Zanskar (Kargil) people with the Union Defence Minister A K Antony here last evening.
A Congress spokesman said that recently a delegation from Kargil led by DCC president Ghulam Raza recently met the PCC president in the Union capital and submitted a memorandum to him demanding MI-17 helicopter service between Padam Hqs and Kargil and Padam ( Zanskar)  and Leh during winter months. They pointed out that during winter months Kargil-Zanskar road remains closed due to heavy snow and the people of this far-flung area of Ladakh region face lot of hardships.
Prof Soz who took up the issue with the Union Defence Minister Mr Antony at his residence late last evening, said that he narrated the woes of the people from Zanskar Sub-Division and demanded that helicopter service be provided to the people of this area as this road remain closed due to heavy snow. The population remains cut off from rest of the country and therefore, this service was most essential to this difficult area.
It was also argued that Army on earlier occasions also was provided M-17 Helicopter service to the people of this inaccessible area during winter months.   The Defence Minister assured Prof Soz that he would discuss the issue with the top Army authorities and take a sympathetically consider the demand.
