SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Dec 1: Continuing joint campaigning for the coalition candidates, the senior Congress leaders and Ministers including PCC chief, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, NC senior leader and Minister of Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia , senior Congress leader and Minister for Medical Education Youth Services and Sports and former Minister and MLA Bhadarwah M S Niaz addressed serious of election meetings of sarpanchs and panchs on the last day of campaigning today across the State.
Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today assured the Sarpanchs and Panchs that coalition was committed to empower them by incorporating certain more provisions into the State’s Panchayati Act.
Addressed a largely attended gathering of Sarpanchs and Panchs at Nasrullahpora Budgam he said the coalition was also committed to ensure the provision of honorarium to Sarpanchs and Panchs and also giving them cover through insurance for which premium would be paid by the State Government.
Those who accompanied him and addressed the gathering included Gulam Nabi Monga, Bashir Ahmad Magrey Vice Presidents, Zahid Hussain Jan District President, Master Mohd Maqbool Working President, Farooq Andrabi, Aga Mohsin Senior Congress Leaders and Block Presidents of the area.
He explained to the gathering of Sarpanchs and Panchs that he has raised the demand for funds with Jairam Ramesh Union Minister of RDD for provision of this relief. He further assured the gathering that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also written to Mr Ramesh in this very connection and he (Prof. Soz) hoped that grants of the Central Government would be available to the State Government very soon.
Prof. Soz appealed the Sarpanchs and Panchs to spread this message throughout the state that the Coalition candidates in Jammu and Kashmir Provinces must be voted to spectacular success, so that they would together be an instrument for empowerment of Panchayat Raj in the State.
Meanwhile senior NC leader and Minister of Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia today accused the opposition for trying to create misunderstanding and disillusionment among Panchs and Sarpanchs just for their petty political gains.
Addressing a convention of Party workers, Panchs and Sarpanchs at Hiranagar in Kathua district of Jammu region today Mr Slathia claimed that only NC and Congress parties are seriously working for empowerment of panchs and Sarpanchs. He said the allegations of opposition regarding misuse of official machinery during the campaigning of MLC elections is an indication that it ahs foreseen its defeat at hustings and it was now beating around the bush.
Meanwhile senior Congress leader and Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib today appealed the Sarpanchs and Panchs to vote and support the coalition candidates in the ensuing elections to Legislative Council.
Addressing a public gathering at Gandoh block, the Minister said said the victory of Congress and National Conference will mean the victory of revolutionary programmes initiated by the present dispensation for the overall development of the State.
He said the coalition led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been endeavouring to transform the developmental profile of the state, particularly its remote and far off areas.
MLA, M.S.Niaz, also addressed the gathering and appealed the Sarpanchs and Panchs to vote for Coalition candidates in order to enhance the development of hilly areas of Bhaderwah assembly constituency.
Some Sarpanchs, while raising several demands relating to development of the area, assured that they will vote for NC and Congress candidates in Council Elections.
