Soz questions role of Election Commission

SRINAGAR, May 6: Former Union Minister and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has questioned the role of Election Commission of India (ECI) and maintained that Commission has failed to check violations of Model Code of Conduct committed by Narendra Modi and others.
In a press statement issued here today, Prof Soz said, ” It is really unfortunate that the Election Commission of India despite its achievements in respect of electoral reforms of various kinds, has failed to check violations of Model Code of Conduct committed by BJP leader Narendra Modi and his cohorts especially in Utter Pradesh.”
The Congress leader pointed out that it was clearly wrong on its part to allow Amit Shah to resume campaign in Utter Pradesh on behalf of Modi and others, including display of Ram Lalla at Faizabad on the occasion of Modi’s visit there and his potentially dangerous speech with communal overtones, occurred only because the hate mongers got conscious of the fact that ECI had not shown the will to check blatant malpractices.
Soz said with this development, some conscientious citizens of the country have started fearing that fascism has already arrived at the threshold of democratic and secular India. He further alleged that ECI has not bothered to go into the details of funding to Modi for his campaign and advertisements.
