SRINAGAR, Mar 24: Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz has appealed the civil society to accept Covid-19 as an opportunity to serve the mankind and proposed to institute fund raising organization to help the poor and needy at this crucial juncture.
In a press statement issued here today, Prof Soz said, “Coronavirus is an epidemic that has come to the world over as a challenge and the mankind has no option, but to fight back. In the absence of any definite medicine, keeping indoors is the prescription that has been accepted, the world over,” he added.
“At this critical juncture, I appeal to civil society organisations to accept Covid-19 as an opportunity to serve mankind. We must understand that in our society, there is a section of people which comprises daily wage-earners. There is also a section at the poverty line. That section is bound to suffer most. I, therefore, appeal and propose to institute fund raising organisation to offer succor to the needy,” Soz maintained.
He said the civil society groups such as KCDS, the Kashmir Bar Association, the Kashmir Media Centre, for instance, could join hands to organise collection of funds and the system of distribution. He suggested that the proposed organisation should invite volunteers to help in collection and distribution of funds.
