JAMMU, Nov 11: Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Sonia Gandhi today alleged that BJP led Government has failed to take effective measures and contain bloodshed.
While reviewing the current situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and party activities across UT during a meeting with the JKPCC president, Ghulam Ahmed Mir in the Union capital today, the AICC president, expressed serious concerned over deteriorating security situation in J&K and the targeted killings in Kashmir.
She observed that BJP Government has miserably failed to contain militancy and restore confidence among the minorities in J&K. She expressed that the party was equally concerned about the killings of large number of security personnel in Rajouri-Poonch and across Kashmir valley for the last few months.
The AICC president stressed for taking some effective measures by Union Government to contain bloodshed across Kashmir. She assailed BJP Government for the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and said there was urgent need to restore confidence among the minorities in the Valley.
Gandhi also sent a caution note to the party cadre in J&K to maintain discipline at all levels and reach out to the masses to project their issues strongly. She stressed the party cadre in J&K to maintain discipline at all levels and strongly project the issues of general public.
Mir further told the Excelsior that AICC president spoke on different issues pertaining to J&K and instructed the cadre to expose the BJP Government for price rise of fuel and other essential commodities, unemployment, increasing corruption and its anti-poor, anti-farmer and anti-youth policies during upcoming ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ being launched from November 14.
Referring to the party functioning in J&K and allied party programmes, Mir disclosed that during his 45-minute meeting with Congress president in Delhi, he briefed her about various issues confronting people and party preparations with regard to launch of fresh membership drive across both the regions of Kashmir and Jammu. He said not only on current situation in J&K, he also apprised Sonia Gandhi of the internal organizational affairs and allied activities in UT.
Mir said he briefed Gandhi in detail on upcoming ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ to be launched from 14th of this month covering all the districts and blocks in J&K. Many other issues especially unemployment and developmental issues in J&K also came under discussion.
The JKPCC chief said Congress president received feedback on organizational affairs and activities and stressed the need to maintain discipline at all levels in the party. She also stressed for unity and involvement of all the functionaries in the upcoming party programmes.
Mir said the party president was apprised about some delay in the membership drive programme in J&K which was earlier to be launched from Ist of November, but the same is now being launched from November 15 in all the 20 districts across J&K.
The JKPCC president said Gandhi expressed concern over the delay being caused in completion of delimitation exercise and conduct of Assembly elections in J&K. She asked the cadre to extend their activities in all the districts and blocks, keeping close eye on all the activities of the ruling party.
