Son-in-law, wife arrested for man’s murder

RAJOURI, June 16: With the arrest of son-in-law and victim’s wife, the police claimed to have solved the blind murder of a 45-year-old farmer in Kandi area Rajouri district.
Sharing details of the case, SSP Rajouri, Chandan Kohli said that on June 11, 2020, Police Station, Kandi received an information that an unidentified body was lying in Panjnara forest area after which SHO, Kandi Mustaj Ahmed reached the spot and with the help of locals, victim was identified as 45- year-old, Mohammad Shrief, son of Bulla, resident of Sakri village.
SSP said that body was lying in mysterious conditions with deep wounds after which Forensic team was also rushed to the spot for spot examination whereas, body was later shifted to Kandi hospital where a board of doctors conducted medico-legal formalities including autopsy and body was later handed over to the family for last rites.
He said investigation into the matter was initiated under CrPC 174 and a special investigation team under the supervision of Additional SP Rajouri, Liyaqit Ali started the investigation. Many suspects were rounded but Mohammad Latif, son- in- law of the victim, became a prime suspect, who was then put to questioning.
” Although he didn’t divulge anything in the initial state, but during sustained questioning he confessed his crime to have murdered his father-in-law with a well hatched plan in which his mother- in-law (victim’s wife) was also involved,” police said.
It came to fore that victim went on his routine work on June 8 when accused Mohammad Latief, son of Wali Mohammad, resident of Panjnara (son-in-law) called him and both went to Patli Dhok for purchasing a bull.
The duo then started to return home and opted the way which passes through dense forest. ” While passing through the forest, accused Mohammad Latif used his sharp edged axe to attack his father-in-law, killing him on spot and accused then escaped from the spot alongwith the money that victim was carrying to purchase bull, ” police said.
“The wife of victim namely, Guljan Begum was also put to questioning, who also confessed her crime for being involved in the crime and her role in conspiracy of murder of her own husband. Illicit relations of accused with Guljan Begum was said to be the motive behid the murder,” a police officer said.
He said taking into account all the evidences and confessions of both the accused, both Mohammad Latif (victim’s son in law) and Guljan Begum (victim’s wife), were arrested and a formal case FIR No. 68/2020 under sections 302/382/34 IPC was registered against them at Kandi Police Station.
