Youth shot last month succumbs

Jammu, Jan 27: A soldier was martyred and three others injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this morning while a man shot at by militants succumbed to injuries today.
Four soldiers were injured, one of them seriously, in Shamsipora area along the Srinagar-Jammu National highway in Kulgam district this morning. The injured were shifted to an Army hospital in Srinagar and the critically injured soldier succumbed.
An official said that the Army personnel who were on ROP duty were burning fire in the school compound daily to keep themselves warm. He said that this was violation of SOP as they were using same place for a longer period of time.
He said that the militants took the advantage and planted an IED which exploded leading to martyrdom of one Army jawan and injuries to three others.
The said that the school building also suffered substantial damage in the blast.

The martyred soldier has been identified as Deepak Kumar of Kosli, Rewari in Haryana. Those who are injured have been identified as Havaldar Sameeka of Raghunathpur, Sundargarh in Odisha, Naik Methil Barl of Garvana, Sundargarh in Odisha and Kan Singh of Suganarh, Nagore in Rajasthan.
A police spokesman said that this morning Police Station Qaimoh received information that an explosion occured at Government Middle School Subhanpora in which 4 personnel of 24 RR were injured and had been evacuated to hospital for treatment. “One of the personnel later succumbed to injuries sustained from the blast”, he said. Security forces launched operations at a number of suspected locations to nab those involved. “As per preliminary investigation, a rudimentary IED with a low powered explosive and ball bearings was planted in an abandoned building inside the school premises”, the spokesman said.
“The 24 RR personnel would come and use the verandah of the building on a regular basis for various purposes. The IED was most probably planted in the night before the incident and it is evident that the attack was planned well in advance after observing troop movement for a sustained periods of time”, the spokesman said. A case (FIR no 05 of 2021 under relevant sections) was registered in PS Qoimoh and investigation has been set into motion.
Nearly two months after being shot at by militants, a 24-year-old youth from Bilal Colony area of Soura succumbed to his injuries at a SKIMS hospital here today.
The youth, Nadif Hanie Khan son of Muhammad Hanief, died late last night at SKIMS Soura where he was admitted since December 1 when the militants fired upon him near his residence.
Nadif had a firearm injury in the head and died at the hospital overnight. Police have already registered a case in this regard.
