SRINAGAR: A soldier was killed when a group of infiltrators opened fire near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, where massive search operation was called off in Keran sector recently.
A defence ministry spokesman said alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid near the Line of Control at Kachhal area of the frontier Kupwara division.
He said the infiltration bid was foiled during which one soldier made the supreme sacrifice.
This was the first infiltration bid after army called off 15-day search in the woods in Keran sector recently.
The army said eight militants were killed in the operation while six soldiers suffered injuries. (AGENCIES)
