Soldier arrested, released

Srinagar, Apr 3: Police today arrested a soldier at Srinagar Airport along with two live grenades and two rounds of ammunition. However, he was later released on interim bail and handed over to his unit.
The Army soldier of JAK Rifles, identified as Bhupal Mukhia of Darjeeling, was taken to Humhama Police Station for interrogation. Sources said that the two grenades and two 9 mm rounds of ammunition were handed over to him by an Army Major and he was supposed to deliver the consignment to another officer outside New Delhi Airport. Mukhia is posted at Uri in North Kashmir and was heading home for vacations.
Director General of Police, SP Vaid said the soldier will face action according to the law irrespective of who he is. “He will face action according to the law. Be it an Army jawan, a policeman or a civilian, everyone will have to face action under law”, he said.
However, in the evening he was granted interim bail by a local court in Budgam and was handed over to his Army unit.
