Social media curbs to continue till Feb 7

JAMMU, Jan 31: Restrictions on the social media applications on mobile internet data will continue in J&K till February 7.
Official sources said that among various things, the terrorist activities and misuse of internet , access through Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications, for coordination of terror acts, transmission of rumours and targeted messages to spread ideologies inimical to the interest of J&K have been taken note of as also the past incidents and apprehensions during the succeeding week by the Government before taking today’s decision.
In view of these developments, Principal Secretary to the Govt, Shaleen Kabra ordered that the directions/ restrictions contained in Govt order No. 05 (TSTS) of 2020, dated 24-01-2020 will continue to remain operative till February 7, 2020, unless modified earlier. He also directed that 329 white listed sites shall be, with updation on a continuing basis.
It clarified that access to the mobile data services will be limited only to the white listed sites and not to any social media- applications allowing peer to peer communication and VPN applications.
“Data services will be available on both post paid mobiles and prepaid SIM cards of such holders whose credentials have been verified as per the norms applicable for post-paid connections and the internet speed will be restricted to 2G only,” the order said.
