JAMMU, May 28: Alleging that Jammu based politicians are hand in glove with the liquor mafia to continue the liquor menace to destroy the future of younger generations in Jammu, social activist Ranjit Singh today said that politicians are being paid huge funds during elections by the liquor mafia who alter dictate terms to them.
Talking to reporters here, today he said these liquor barons in turn force these politicians to make posting and transfers in civil as well as in police administration at top level as per their choice.
The mafia is running the State for its vested interests while politicians mislead the common voters by saying that development of different areas would be done for the interest of common masses. Lauding the role of people of Bagh-e-Bahu and Doda for allegedly ransacking wine shops in their area for selling illicit liquor to destroy health and economy of youth of the area. Ranjit Singh said that campaign against liquor mafia, would be intensified in the days to come as door to door campaign would be organized for 15 days to create awareness among the masses. Citing example of one Preetam Kumar who lost life due to drinking illicit liquor being sold in Jammu city, Ranjit said he would call upon the family members of deceased to take legal recourse as well as launch social campaign against the same.
Threatening to sit on hunger strike till death after 15 days if any response in this regard is not received from the Government, Ranjit lambasted Excise Department for showing dereliction of duty towards the menace and mafia by not tightening its noose over them. He expressed serious concern that few years back Jammu was known as city of temples but now it has reduced to city of liquor mafia and menace. He said that wine shops near schools and temples depict a sheer conspiracy against great Dogras which could not be tolerated at any cost. He urged the people especially youth to unite and fight liquor mafia and menace unitedly
