Srinagar, Jan 31: The roads in far flung areas of district Baramulla continue to remain cut off due to the snow which has not been cleared even after the passage of 15 days. The areas include Dudran and Nambla of the district and few more areas near Line of Control (LoC).
The locals of the area allege that the authorities were resorting to callous approach in clearing the roads which are cut off, pushing the residents to face the hardships.
“The snow has not been cleared till date; the locals are subjected to huge inconvenience. We have time again approached the authorities to start the snow clearance process, but nothing has been so far,” said Bilal Ahmad, a resident.
Further there are still some areas which include Chotali-situated just few kilometres near the Line of Control-the situation there is even worse as the roads in the areas continue to remain inaccessible.
The locals in the area said while the roads there are not macadamized the accumulation of snow adds to their woes. “It is gets difficult for us to come out of our homes-on top of it when the authorities do not clear the road on time only add to the woes,” the locals said.
Authorities, however, said that they are carrying on with the work of clearing the snow, but are not able to employ machines on certain roads as those roads are not macadamized.
SDM Boniyar Riyaz Ahmad Malik, however, said that there are few roads which are adjacent to the LoC and the roads are being maintained by the army-where the snow clearance gets difficult. “In those areas, we employ manual clearance of snow, which usually takes time-in these areas, we already stock the essentials given the fact that the areas remain out of bounds,” he said.
The residents demand that the administration should take swift action with regard to the clearance of various roads in the district. “The Government should come to our rescue and swiftly start the snow clearance of various roads in the district,” they said.
