JAMMU, May 8: SMVDU’s School of Business organized an insightful session by Neetu Dhar, Chairperson of Jammu Pariyatan Vikas Cooperative Ltd and Director of Unati Agri and Allied Multistate Cooperative Ltd.
Prof. Ashutosh Vashishtha and Prof. Suparn Kumar Sharma welcomed the resource person.
Addressing the participants, Neetu Dhar explained how SHGs functions as a strong grassroots mechanism for poverty alleviation by encouraging savings, credit access, collective decision-making and self-reliance among women.
She emphasized the Government of India’s commitment towards SHGs under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and discussed key initiatives such as DAY-NRLM and the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme, which have significantly strengthened women-led development across the rural India.
The session also underlined the pioneering role of NABARD in promoting financial literacy, entrepreneurship and SHG-bank linkages, along with the contribution of J&K Rural Livelihood Mission in empowering SHGs across the region.
Dhar also discussed challenges like limited awareness, financial constraints and market access barriers, while emphasizing the need for stronger SHG networks, digital empowerment, improved market linkages and greater youth participation.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Divya Jamwal, Dr. Sarabjot Singh and Dr. Ritu Rana.
