SMVDU Scholar brings laurel to state

JAMMU, Dec 16: Sonali Verma of Biotechnology, SMVDU brought laurel to University as she won Third prize in “Best Oral presentation” and a cash prize of five thousand Rupees at “The Silver Jubilee conference of Association of Gynecologic Oncologists of India” at Leela Ambience Gurgaon, recently.
She is Pursuing Ph.D. in Biotechnology under the supervision of Dr.Rakesh Kumar Assistant Professor and Co-supervision of HoD Biotechnology Professor Vijeshwar Verma, from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The presented study, “Genetic analysis of OGG (rs1052133) in Ovarian Cancer females from Jammu and Kashmir region” the study has been carried out in collaboration with Dr.Ajay Wakhloo and Dr.Deepak Abrol, of SMGS and GMC Jammu. National and international delegates attended the Conference. The study indicates a genetic polymorphism in a DNA repair gene OGG1 is found to decrease the risk of developing Ovarian Cancer, in females of Jammu and Kashmir region.
