KATRA, Sept 18: The Academic Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University today deliberated over various administrative and academic measures and recommended them for approval in the Executive Council.
Chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Sudhir K Jain, the Council reviewed the action taken on the decisions taken in the 22nd & 23rd meeting of Academic Council which were ratified in the Executive Council. Significant among them were adoption of New IPR Policy for checking of plagiarism of Ph D, M Tech and B Tech Projects/Thesis; starting of new School of Economics; running of new courses like Five years Integrated M.Sc. (Economics) program & MCA; establishment of Academic Staff College; establishment of Nano-technology Cell; fresh MoU with IIM, Jammu; modification in R&D projects and revision of curriculum of the various UG & PG programs.
The action taken was followed by deliberations and recommendations on adoption of UGC Choice Based Credit System; review of Students Merit-cum-Means Scholarships; starting M Tech.(Renewable Energy) full-time programme; introduction of Inter-University credit transfer. Further, the Council deliberated over constitution of School Research Committees in all Academic Schools in view of the fact that each school in the University has grown in terms of faculty & research, therefore, instead of existing Faculty Research Committees (FRC), School Research Committees will enhance research output administratively.
The Council also deliberated and recommended various other academic enhancements in curricula for ratification in the Executive Council. Another significant decision taken in the meeting was creation of position of Dean of Faculty Affairs and modification in the mission statement of University so as to make it more applicable to society. Certain other important student friendly decisions taken in the meeting like creation of position of Research Associate will prove beneficial to young Ph D students.
Prominent academicians from different areas of discipline attended the meeting as External members whereas all Deans, Directors, Librarian attended the meeting as Ex-officio members and .Ajay Khajuria, the Registrar of the University as Secretary of Council. The External members who attended the meeting were Prof .Sunil Kale HoD, Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Delhi, Prof Suneet Tuli, Dean, R&D, Center for Advance Research in Electronics, IIT Delhi & Prof Ram A Vishwakarma, Director IIM , Jammu.
