KATRA, Dec 3: A national seminar on Cardiac Sciences was held today at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH) in which eminent cardiac specialists from various parts of the country participated and exchanged their knowledge and experience.
The panel was comprised of Dr Julius Punnen, Senior Consultant, Cardiothoracic Transplant Surgeon, Dr Pradeep Kaushik, Consultant, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon and Dr Uday Khanolkar, Senior Consultant (Cardiologist) from Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Bengaluru.
The topics of discussion included heart transplants, surgical recommendations of congenital heart diseases and critical limb ischemia. Also Dr CP Srivastava, Chief Consultant, Cardiac Surgeon from Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Jaipur shared an Indian perspective on using stents in Interventional cardiac procedures as against an open heart surgery, debating on the best treatment modality for patients.
Dr Atul Anand Maslekar, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Surgeon, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Ahmedabad spoke about mitral valve repair and beyond while Dr Mrinalendu Das, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Surgeon from Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), Kolkata deliberated on the current approach to a patient with functional tricuspid regurgitation.
Speaking about the seminar, Dr Shirish Dhoble, Senior Consultant, Cardiac Surgeon at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra said, “The heart enclave is a melting pot of knowledge-sharing in the area of cardiac sciences. I strongly believe this event showcased the best of talent and skills bringing together various stakeholders of this region to deliver better patient outcomes”.
With reference to the Health Enclave-National seminar on Cardiac sciences, Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman -Narayana Health said, “Indians are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attack than Europeans. India requires close to 2 million heart surgeries a year but unfortunately all the heart surgeons of the country put together perform less than 120000 heart surgeries. What happens to the rest? They perish gradually over a period of time. The mission of Narayana Health is to create affordable hi-tech heart care facilities across the country.”
Around 160 people participated in the cardiac seminar comprising of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, physicians, other clinicians and medical students of Jammu province.
