The Executive Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, meeting under the chairmanship of Governor N. N Vohra, also the Chancellor of the University, took some important policy and administrative decisions with the purpose of improving the status and functioning of the university. Taking stock of intake status, it was decided that the number of admissions could be increased once the boys and girls hostels, now under construction, were completed by 2014. It decided that non-market relevant courses should be stopped but new subjects with market demand could be introduced when logistical support was available. Any amendment to the University Master Plan would be effected only after the original plan was placed before the Council for examination and discussion.
A significant decision taken by the Council was to emphasize the imparting of moral and philosophical education to the student community in addition to the technical courses they are pursuing. It was felt that a balanced and wholesome education had to be resorted to so that the manpower emerging from the university served the broader interests of the nation in right manner. Since the business establishment was eager that new generation of students should be equipped with moral and philosophical commitment, this decision had become a priority.
