SMVD Sangarsh Samiti demands assessment of Ban Toll Plaza

JAMMU, Nov 13: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti has demanded a high-level assessment of Ban Toll Plaza and suspension of its operations till outcome of the report in this regard.
While addressing a press conference, the Sangarsh Samiti chairman Bhupinder Singh Jamwal highlighted the difficulties being faced by Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims and other commuters because of Ban Toll Plaza, where long jams for hours together are a routine feature.
“Besides these long Jams for 3 to 4 hours at the Toll Plaza, there is no way for Ambulances, not enough infrastructure to handle traffic and other facilities, absence of toilets , Medical assistance, eatery place etc while two people recently died because of jams there,” he said.
Mr Singh alleged that the authorities were are busy in collecting tolls as they have no concern at all even if people are standing in long jams for 3 to 4 hours with children and old age people. “They have no issues because it is being handled by mafias ,” he said and lamented that despite bringing the matter into the notice of Divisional Commissioner and other authorities, no action was taken.
“Government give subsidies for pilgrimage by the people of other faiths but the devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi are made to wait in long queues for hours together at the Toll Plaza,” he alleged and demanded an assessment of Ban Toll Plaza by higher authorities besides suspension of its operation till outcome of the report.
He also announced to take this matter to Supreme Court if the authorities do not pay any heed to their demand and grievances of commuters.
