JAMMU, May 6: The 77th Foundation Day of Shri Maharaj Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital was celebrated today by organizing an impressive function in the hospital auditorium.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat, was the chief guest on the occasion while MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta, presided over the function. Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr Pawan Kotwal, was the guest of honour.
Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina, Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Dr Dara Singh and HoD, ENT, Dr Sunil Kotwal were also present on the dais.
The celebration started with garlanding of statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh by the Health Minister in the presence of other guests, hospital staff including doctors and prominent citizens followed by Pooja at the statue site by Dharmarth Trust and inauguration of a blood donation camp organized by ‘Pahalwans’ in association with SMGS Hospital. Around 75 volunteers turned up for donating their blood.
The main function started with lighting of traditional lamp by the chief guest followed by Saraswati Vandana presented by a group of school students and address by the chief guest.
In his address, Bali Bhagat shared his views regarding efficient care services being delivered in GMCH Jammu and its associated hospitals and high level of cleanliness and sanitation by outsourcing washrooms of all these hospitals. He also stressed upon the doctors to prescribe generic medicines only in the interest of patients.
The Minister also threw light on the steps taken by him to ensure better patient care services in all Government hospitals. He also spoke out the achievements of his Ministry after he took over.
Rajesh Gupta, while speaking on the occasion announced that one Critical Care Ambulance and some important equipment for ENT department shall be provided out of his Constituency Development Fund.
Dr Dara Singh, in his address, highlighted the achievements of the hospital during 2016-17 which include reduction of infant mortality rate for which the hospital received State Award, adoption colour coded policy of bed sheets day-wise, construction of DEIC project in the department of Paediatrics and installation of two new Color Doppler Machines in the hospital. He also spoke about proposed projects.
Dr Pawan Kotwal also spoke on the occasion and advised the doctors and paramedical staff to work hard for providing better patient care services.
Later, the best workers of the hospital for the year 2016-17 were presented awards by the Minister. The function ended with vote of thanks presented by Dr Aparna Koul.
