SMC to collect Qurbani waste at doorsteps

SRINAGAR, July 6: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is going to collect the animal hides and skins on its own from all the Municipal wards across Srinagar on Eid ul Adha.
In this regard, the concerned officials have been directed by the Commissioner, SMC Athar Amir to ensure that all such waste is collected properly at the doorsteps of the households across the city.
The Commissioner has directed the officials to provide dedicated services in all the wards of Srinagar City to ensure that the waste is not dumped in water streams and other spots in the city.
In this connection, a meeting of the concerned officials was earlier called in which all the senior officers including Joint Commissioners, FA/ CAO, Secretary SMC and heads of all the wings of SMC including Sanitation, Enforcement, Planning, Revenue, Electrical, Health, and all ward officers were present.
It was conveyed that the sacrificial waste/ Animal hides have to be retained and handed over to the concerned driver and the SMC official who shall visit the households after contacting them so that the waste is collected and properly disposed of.
The officials have also been directed to maintain upgraded sanitation in all the wards of Srinagar city ahead of Eid while he impressed that no garbage should be seen lying anywhere in the city and that all the dumping points shall be cleared twice a day.
“It was decided that SMC will provide dedicated services for collection of animal hides and skins in all wards of Srinagar City on the eve of Eid ul Adha,” officials said.
The Commissioner has directed all the ward officers to make an appeal in this regard to hand over all the waste to the SMC rather than throwing the same out in public places.
