Smart Cities

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ’27 more Smart Cities : Jammu, Srinagar nowhere near mission’ DE Sept 21.
It is quite disappointing to note that Jammu  and Srinagar cities have found no place in the list of 27 Smart Cities released by the Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.
The twin cities of the State deserved to be included in the list keeping in view the importance of these cities from religious and tourism angles and both the cities have historical importance too. But both  the cities are victims of official negligence and apathy. As both cities are expanding horizontically and vertically, they are experiencing great strain and stress. The traffic density is increasing alarmingly in the cities. With the result, there are huge traffic jams, and consequent increase in pollution levels.
The twin cities are also experiencing strain on drinking water and electricity supply. The health delivery system is also crumbling. The Urban Ministry should have kept these considerations in view before finalising the list. All is not lost. It is hoped when third list is released, these cities would find a mention in that.
Yours etc…
