SKUAST J&K Teaching Associations hold joint meeting, highlight demands

SRINAGAR, May 31: A joint meeting was held between the executive members of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) and their counterpart i.e., Scientists and Teachers Association (SSTA), SKUAST-K, here today to discuss some major issues pertaining to teaching fraternity of both the farm varsities.
During the meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of President SKUAST-TAJ, Dr Vikas Sharma and President SSTA Dr Javed Ahmed Mugloo, both the associations demanded that the Board of Management (BOM) should be fixed as early as possible since the interviews for CAS of teachers / scientists in SKUAST-J & SKUAST-K have already been conducted and the teachers are eagerly waiting for their results.
The meet stressed that according to UGC guidelines adopted by SKUAST-J & SKUAST-K, CAS of teachers should be conducted twice in a year, as timely promotions to the teachers are an encouragement for doing better services. The associations also discussed pros & cons of New API scorecard for new CAS as per 7th Pay Commission.
The house stressed that for better research / teaching outputs, the retirement age of erstwhile state varsity professors should be enhanced from 62 to 65 years as per norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC), for retaining the excellent human resource in higher education. The teaching associations of farm universities also formed a four member joint committee to look into the common agendas of both the agricultural universities of Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Dr Aflaq Hamid, General Secretary SSTA; Dr Vivak Arya, General Secretary TAJ; Dr Mohd Anwar Bhatt, Vice president SSTA; Dr Fayaz Bahar, Joint Secretary SSTA; Dr P K Rai, Joint Secretary TAJ; Dr Rajeev Bharat, Treasurer TAJ and Dr Amitesh Sharma, Executive TAJ.
