JAMMU, Mar 20: SKUAST -Jammu today held 17th Research Council Meet under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof P K Sharma, wherein confirmation of the previous RCM was approved and action taken report on various researchable agenda was presented.
Dr A C Varsheney, Director General Ayurvet and former Vice Chancellor UPPDDUEAS, UP and Dr S C Sharma, former Director Research CSKHPKVV, were the experts during the meet.
Prof. P K Sharma emphasized upon the scientist to work on new researchable issues viz climate resilient agriculture practices, development of new resilient crop varieties, enhancing input use efficiency, value addition of agricultural and dairy products, genetical improvement in breeds, popularization of poultry and creating awareness among farmers regarding various schemes offered by State and Central Government .
Dr A C Varsheney, Director General Ayurvet, said there was need to conserve local breed and their molecular characterization and to use genetical and biotechnological interventions like marker technology and DNA fingerprinting. He emphasized area specific feed supplementation of animals and surveillance of pest and diseases.
Dr S C Sharma, in his remarks, said that there was urgent need to tap and conserve the local germplasm viz, Rajmash, Kala Zeera & saffron. He placed emphasis on maintenance breeding and development of triple zero varieties in oilseeds. He advised the scientists to develop new varieties which have the potential to sustain under different geographical conditions.
At the outset, Dr J P Sharma, Director Research, gave presentation of university research perspective. Directors of allied State department gave their overview and suggestions on various researchable issues.
The meeting was attended by Dr K S Risam, Director Extension, Dr Deepak Kher, Director Planning, Dr D P Abrol Dean FoA, Dr SHE Rizvi Dean Faculty of Basic Science Dr S K Gupta, Dean FoVSc, . Anuradha Gupta Director Horticulture, Directors of allied departments, HODs and Scientists of SKUAST-J.
