JAMMU, May 25: Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee (ZREAC) meeting for Kharif 2016 was held today at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J).
The meeting was chaired by Prof Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, and attended by officers of the University, Agriculture and Horticulture Departments.
Prof Pradeep K Sharma impressed upon the university authorities and scientists that only final recommendations after on-farm testing and authentication should be passed on to the development departments for their dissemination to farming community. “ZREAC is not a forum to discuss research experiments and research results but to discuss final recommendations and get feedback from the development departments, otherwise it amounts to wastage of time and resources” he added.
Dr S S Jamwal, Director Agriculture Jammu, emphasized on putting impetus on testing and development of pulse varieties. He said that we should preserve the purity of Basmati-370 after the announcement of Basmati Cluster Project by the Chief Minister. Research priorities for the university after the deliberations between the university authority and scientists, and officers of the development departments were finalized in the meeting
Earlier, Dr K S Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu, said that the purpose of this meeting was to finalize the research recommendations and identification of researchable issues in consultation with the agriculture and other allied departments. Present in the meeting, were; Dr J P Sharma, Director Research; Dr T A S Ganai, Director Education; Dr D P Abrol, Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Dr Deepak Kher, PPMO; Dr S A Mallick, Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences; Dr V K Razdan, University Librarian; Heads of the divisions of FoA and Scientists besides officers of the line departments namely Sudesh Koul, Jt Director Agriculture; Rajeev Mahajan, Deputy Director Horticulture and others.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr R K Arora, Associate Director Extension and vote of thanks was presented by Dr R R Jat.
