SRINAGAR, Apr 19: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has tightened protocols for consultant rounds in its Emergency Department, mandating stricter oversight to ensure smooth functioning and improved patient care, officials said.
According to an official communication, consultants on call have been directed to strictly adhere to scheduled emergency rounds and take timely decisions regarding admission, shifting, or discharge of patients.
The communication also requires the Emergency Coordinator to submit daily rosters and attendance reports of consultant rounds to the Director’s office, while the Control Room has been tasked with monitoring consultant visits and furnishing regular reports.
It further states that every patient admitted to the Emergency Department must be registered under the consultant on call as per the approved roster, who will be responsible for planning and managing the patient’s treatment.
Meanwhile, SKIMS has also restructured its Department of Radiotherapy/Radiation Oncology in the interest of patient care and academic functioning.
As per a separate official communication, the department has been reorganised into three units.
Unit-I (General Radiation Oncology & Brachytherapy) will be headed by Dr Malik Tariq Rasool, with Dr Asifa Andleeb and Dr Kaneez Fatima as associate professors.
Unit-II (General Radiation Oncology & Teletherapy) will be headed by Dr Arshad Manzoor Najmi, with Dr Shahida Nasreen as associate professor.
A third unit dealing with General Radiation Oncology and Pain & Palliative Care will be headed by Dr Shaqul Qamar Wani, with Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi as assistant professor.
The Head of Department will remain the overall in-charge of all units, the communication added.
