SKIMS seeks service expansion research proposals

Srinagar, Apr 28: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has announced an intramural research grant, seeking research proposals that focus on either the future expansion of services at the institute or solutions to local health problems.
Proposals under the scheme of research and surveys have been sought from faculty members, students, and scholars of SKIMS and SKIMS Medical College, Bemina.
In this regard, SKIMS will provide financial assistance under two categories that include thesis proposals and faculty proposals.
Under the thesis proposal category, senior faculty members who currently serve as guides for Post-Doctoral, Postgraduate, Postgraduate Diploma, and other students are eligible for seed grants to support the thesis work of the students assigned to them.
“The proposals should be framed in such a way that they lead to an expansion of SKIMS services in the future or offer a solution to a local health problem,” reads a communication issued in this regard.
As per the directives, the duration of each project is set at 24 months, extendable up to a maximum of 30 months.
All submitted research proposals will be peer-reviewed, and the Project Investigators, students will be invited to present their proposals before the Project Review Committee.
“The Project Review Committee will adhere to an objective method of assessment. PIs/Guides will be responsible for obtaining ethical clearance from the Institutional Ethical Committee before the release of grants to successful proposals,” the communication states.
It has been noted that the grants should be utilized for the purchase of equipment and consumables such as chemicals, reagents, kits, disposables, micropipettes, etc.
“Computers/accessories and staff salaries are not permitted under this grant.”
At the end of the first year, investigators must submit a report on the progress of their research work, which will be reviewed by the Project Review Committee.
“The final report, along with a utilization certificate, must be submitted upon project completion (at the end of two years), and the PI/student will be required to present the results before the Project Review Committee,” the communication further adds.
