SKIMS hosts CME on ‘Evidence-based Management of GI Cancers’

SRINAGAR, May 20: The Department of Radiation Oncology at SKIMS, Soura today organized a comprehensive day-long scientific program focusing on the “Evidence-based Management of GI Cancers.”
The event, which featured engaging scientific sessions, poster presentations, and oral paper discussions, aimed to enhance knowledge and promote effective patient care management.
Prof. Parvaiz A Koul, Director of SKIMS in his address commended the department for organizing the event. He emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge, anticipating that it would greatly benefit the management of patients.
He acknowledged the department’s growth and success, crediting the contributions of former heads, including Prof. M.Y Kharadi, who attended the event as the chief guest. Prof. Koul recognized Prof. Kharadi’s significant role in shaping the department and his dedication to advancing the field of GI malignancies.
Prof. M.Y Kharadi, the former HOD during his speech emphasized the need for creating awareness about GI cancers and educating the masses through various media channels and educational institutions.
Prof. Kharadi commended Director SKIMS for his exemplary leadership and commitment to research, considering the Department of Radiation Oncology one of the best patient care centres.
He also highlighted the importance of consistency checks on machine-dependent departments to ensure the provision of top-quality patient care services.
Prof. Bashir A Laway, Dean of the Medical Faculty, and Dr Farooq A Jan, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, also addressed the gathering. Both congratulated the department for organizing the event, acknowledging the department’s unwavering commitment to providing round-the-clock services despite the heavy patient load.
Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan, the Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology emphasized that the scientific discussions led by renowned experts in the field of GI malignancies, which are prevalent in the Kashmir region, would greatly benefit the participants and enhance patient care management at SKIMS.
Dr Shaqul Qamar Wani, the organizing secretary of the event, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed appreciation for the constant support provided by the administration.
