SRINAGAR, May 20: In a significant move towards educational reform, the Academic Division of the Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) today released a notification regarding the rationalization of syllabi for Classes 9th to 12th across the region.
The decision, which aligns with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to reduce the content load of textbooks and promote experiential learning with a creative mindset.
Taking inspiration from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in New Delhi, the JKBOSE intends to streamline the syllabi and textbooks to match the rationalization efforts undertaken by the NCERT.
As a result, all stakeholders have been notified that the rationalized syllabi and textbooks for Classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, similar to those implemented by the NCERT, will be introduced in all JKBOSE-affiliated schools starting from the current Academic Session 2023-24.
It is to be noted here that the rationalized syllabi have been designed to eliminate unnecessary content and provide students with a more focused and enriched learning experience and by reducing the content load, students will have increased opportunities for experiential learning and the development of a creative mindset.
This approach aims to strike a balance between academic rigor and the practical application of knowledge, in accordance with the principles of NEP 2020.
To ensure transparency and accessibility, the JKBOSE has announced that the rationalized syllabi, including the deleted contents, will be made available on the official JKBOSE website in due course of time which will enable teachers, students, and parents to familiarize themselves with the revised curriculum and adequately prepare for the upcoming academic year.
Officials believe that the implementation of rationalized syllabi in JKBOSE-affiliated schools represents a significant step towards educational reform in the Union Territory.
“By aligning with NEP 2020 and adopting the rationalization measures already undertaken by the NCERT, the board aims to enhance the overall quality of education and promote holistic development among students.”
Stakeholders, they said, are encouraged to visit the official JKBOSE website for more information and updates regarding the rationalization of syllabi and to stay connected with the latest developments.
