SJAC delegation meets DC Ramban, raises concern regarding Sawalkote Project

RAMBAN, May 9: The representatives of Sawalkote Joint Action Committee (SJAC) here today met Deputy Commissioner Ramban and raised the concern regarding the proposed Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project.
SJAC leaders also submitted a memorandum and raised issues regarding transparency, rehabilitation, compensation, road alignment, protection of local interests, employment opportunities for affected youth, and environmental and social impacts on Ramban district due to the proposed Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project.
The Deputy Commissioner assured that the administration stands with the people and will take up the genuine issues with the concerned authorities.
He also assured that public interests, rights of affected families and lawful concerns of the residents will be properly addressed.
The SJAC further stated that the people of Ramban are not against development but seek transparency, justice, fair rehabilitation, proper compensation and protection of the rights and future of the local residents.
The meeting was attended by representatives of SJAC including Fairoz Khan, Mudassar Azad Mir, Sheetal Singh Bali, Abdul Rahim Bali, Mohd Akhtar, Iftiyaz Sohil, Ravinder Singh, Mohd Tasir, Vakeel Singh, Mohd Rabir Rather, Sadam Bali, Gulrez Ahmed, Bikram Singh, Sachin and Fayaz Ahmed Sohil.
Fairoz Khan, SJAC president told reporters that SJAC submitted a memorandum to the administration so that concerns of the people may reach the Union Power Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, Prime Minister’s Office, Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh, J&K Chief Minister and J&K LG.
