JAMMU, May 27: Railways Police today constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the incidents of fire in two trains at Washing Line and Central Line at Jammu Railway Station yesterday.
The SIT comprised Paramvir Singh, SDPO Railways, Purshotam Mengi, DySP GRP Lines, Railways, Inspector Surinder Singh Samyal, SHO Railways, Sub Inspector Jagjit Singh and ASI Firdous Giri.
The SIT would work under the supervision of SSP Railways Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Police said a suspect, Ajay Kumar son of Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Nangloi, New Delhi, who was detained yesterday from burning Swaraj Express at Central Line between Platform Nos. 1 and 2 at Jammu Railway Station, has been formally arrested.
He was being questioned to ascertain his motive of sitting in a coach of Swaraj Express when it caught fire.
Police said though Ajay Kumar was not mentally fit, his involvement in the incidents of fire can’t be ruled out.
Police said the SIT would investigate whether the fire incidents were caused by technical faults or sabotage.
“Nothing can be ruled out at this stage,” they added.
Further investigations in the case were in progress.
Meanwhile, Northern Railways General Manager VK Gupta, DTM Jammu Ram Nath Meena and other senior officers along with Railways and GRP Police officers inspected the site of firing and inquired about the incident.
Normal train traffic was restored after midnight last night.
