BANIHAL, Feb 21: Alleging that the major chunk of land in Halwagon village in Ramsoo tehsil is sinking due to widening of National Highway, National Conference leader and district president Ramban, Haji Sajjad Shaheen expressed serious concern over the safety of the people and demanded their proper rehabilitation.
The NC leader expressed serious concern over the safety of the people living in the village, stating that dozens of houses in the village have been damaged due to wide cracks that have developed due to sinking of the land.
Shaheen while interacting with the villagers during his visit to the affected village urged upon the local and the district administration to make immediate arrangements for shifting the affected families to safer places so that no precious life is lost.
He accused the NHAI and the (HCC) company that has been assigned the work of widening of NHW for not taking the safety concerns of the people living along the NHW into account while conducting the survey and also failing in taking precautionary measures while executing the widening work of the National Highway. The NC leader said that the callous attitude of the construction company has not only made the life of the road users miserable but the people living near NHW as well for which they need to be made accountable.
Later Shaheen led a deputation of the affected villagers and local Sarpanch to Sub Divisional Magistrate, Ramsoo. The SDM was apprised of the situation and urged to take preventive and remedial measures.
Shaheen also sought Governor’s intervention in this serious humanitarian issue and urged upon him to direct the divisional and the district administration to depute a high level team to the affected village for assessment of the losses to the property of the villagers caused by widening of the road and compensate and rehabilitate the affected families at the earliest.
