4 brick kilns sealed as labourer, infant report positive

JAMMU, June 5: For the first time since Coronavirus pandemic outbreak, 12 police personnel were among 23 security personnel who tested positive for the virus in a single day across Jammu region where 86 total cases, the highest for any day, were reported today, 18 more than yesterday’s 68 even as 900 more persons crossed Lakhanpur to enter Jammu and Kashmir from different parts of the country. A Nurse tested positive in Doda District Hospital. Previous highest number of cases in Jammu region in a single day earlier stood at 75.
Of 12 positive police personnel for COVID-19, six were reported from Udhampur district, three from Reasi, two from Samba and one from Rajouri. Eleven other security personnel today also tested positive for COVID-19. They included seven from Army, two from CRPF and one each from BSF and ITBP, official sources told the Excelsior.
Ten new Corona cases were reported from Jammu City’s outskirts tonight including a 24-year-old youth from Trikuta Nagar, 38-year-old man from Gandhi Nagar, 44-year and 35-year old males from Channi Himmat, 67-year and 47-year-old women from Bohri, Talab Tillo, 43-year-old man from Akhnoor, 30-year-old youth from Nanak Nagar, 22-year-old girl from Arnia and 28-year old from Dental College. All of them were returnees and under quarantine.
Four brick kilns were sealed in Samba after a female worker from Uttar Pradesh and her four-year-old daughter tested positive for the virus in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
The woman and her infant daughter were at a brick kiln at Gho Manasan in Samba where they were sampled and tested positive. Some other workers have tested negative, Pathak said, adding a total of four brick kilns in the same area have been sealed and nearly 1000 labourers quarantine inside for sampling. The area has also been closed for any movement.
Two police personnel from Bandial, Ramgarh and Kulgam were also tested positive for the virus in Samba.
A day after 29 persons including three Indian Reserve Police (IRP) personnel were tested positive in Udhampur, the district today again reported 28 positive cases-13 of them travelers, six police personnel, two CRPF jawans, one each soldier from BSF and ITBP, one pregnant woman, a food handler and three persons whose samples were taken during random checking.
District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior that majority of those tested positive today were under administrative quarantine and are being moved from the quarantine centres to dedicated COVID hospitals.
All of them were asymptomatic and in stable condition.
Meanwhile, village Panchairi in Udhampur district today remained closed after a local was tested positive for the virus yesterday. The village has been declared as Containment Zone.
More positive cases were result of aggressive sampling, sources said, adding that contact tracing of persons whose samples were taken randomly besides a pregnant woman was on for isolation and sampling.
Eleven COVID positive cases were reported from Ramban district.
They included two from Gool and nine from Banihal and all of them were returnees from different States who were under administrative quarantine. They were in the process of being shifted from the quarantine centres to COVID Hospitals.
Three head constables of police, a pregnant woman and a youth from Katra tested Corona positive in Reasi district today.
One of the positive head constables was posted in eighth battalion and was under quarantine at STC Talwara while two other head constables who tested positive in Reasi belonged to Baga, Mahore, presently posted at Rhembal, Udhampur and Sirla Bhaga, Mahore deployed at District Police Lines (DPL) Udhampur.
A 23-year-old pregnant woman from Chassana, Mahore and 28-year-old youth from Katra with travel history of Punjab have also tested positive for the virus.
Nine persons have tested positive in Kathua district including five from Billawar and three Kathua while another positive was an Army soldier.
District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat said that all five positive cases of Billawar were returnees from Himachal Pradesh. All of them were under administrative quarantine, he added.
He said nearly 900 persons today crossed Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir and entered Kathua district from different parts of the country.
Of 12 positives cases in Jammu district, 11 were travelers including six Army jawans posted at different places who had returned from outside the Union Territory and were under quarantine at their respective formations. A 52-year-old man from Paloura has also tested positive for the virus in Jammu.
Two persons including a Nurse were tested positive in Doda district.
SSP Doda Mumtaz Ahmad said the Nurse was posted in Gynecology Ward of the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda while second positive was a youth from village Baggar, who had travel history of Doda. Contact tracing of both including the Nurse is on for isolation and sampling. Both have been hospitalized.
Two persons including a police constable from Chatyari Chingus and a security guard of Dalhori, Kalakote, who had returned from Haryana today reported positive for COVID-19 in Rajouri district, according to SSP Chandan Kohli.
Three persons were tested positive in Poonch district. They included a 15-year-old boy of Dharana, Mendhar with travel history of Shopian, 21-year-old youth from Manhote Solyan in Surankote, who had returned from Srinagar and was a student at Amar Singh College and another one a worker from Sabjian, who was returnee from Maharashtra.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said all three were under administrative quarantine and have been shifted to hospital.
Lt Col Inam Danish Khan, Classified Specialist (Microbiology) Command Hospital Udhampur said the hospital has so far conducted 26903 cases and, of them, 436 were positive.
