JAMMU, Feb 27: Social worker and former SSP Bhupinder Singh today visited Kapoor Pur, Bhojpur, Talhar, Jangwal, Muffi Kotli, Pindi Saroocha and Biaspur Parlah villages of R S Pura tehsil and interacted with people, particularly on the issue of poor sanitation in these areas.
The people apprised him of the poor sanitation in their villages as well as the health related issues. Mr Singh patiently heard the issues.
He said that it was unfortunate that even 65 years after the independence the rural households were still struggling to have access to toilet and drinking water facilities. He further said that Government of India has spent lots of funds on schemes such as Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and Total Sanitation Campaign but the effective implementation was lacking.
“The worst sufferers are the women and girls for whom it is not only a matter of dignity but also of Safety”, the social worker said, adding lack of proper sanitation facilities has traditionally been more detrimental to women than to men.
“Many schools in rural areas do not have toilet facility for children. Consequently, boys and girls face a lot of difficulty”, he said, adding “the lack of sanitation facilities has also been a barrier to girls attending school”.
Mr Singh assured the people that their issues will be taken up with the concerned departments and all efforts will be made to sort out the same.
