SRINAGAR, Aug 17: Sikh community in the State has accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of discriminating with them while considering granting of scheduled tribe to Paharis, but ignoring their long-pending demand.
All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today expressed dismay over the “dual policy” of State Government while dealing with different communities of the State.
APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina expressed surprise over the statement of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that the State Government is in constant touch with the Central Government over the granting of scheduled tribe category status to Paharis living in the State.
Raina said the State Government has been resorting to step-motherly treatment to the Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir. The reluctance shown by the State Government over the extension of Minority Act to Jammu & Kashmir proves that there is autocracy and not democracy in the state,” said Raina.
The APSCC asked the chief minister to work for every section of society and not to discriminate in this regard. He accused the State Government of adopting a cold shouldered attitude when it comes to work for the betterment of Sikhs.
