Sikh Council flays UNO for refusing memorandum

JAMMU, Aug 29: Sikh Council, J&K has criticized the United Nations Organizations authorities at Jammu for refusing to accept memorandum of the people affected with the firing along borders for the last several weeks.
Talking to media-persons here today, president of the Sikh Council, Harmohinder Singh alleged that in view of the constant border firing the people in R S Pura, Suchetgarh and Bishnah have been badly affected. They are unable to work in their fields. A large number of families have been forced to leave their homes. The Pakistani troops despite several flag meetings have been indulging in ceasefire violations and civilians are worst hit. Two deaths have also taken place and many of them have injured. He said that both the countries should talk to ensure ceasefire.
Mr Singh said that two days back, a group members of the Council moved to the office of UNO at Jammu and wanted to submit a memorandum. The members raised the issue of harassment of Sikh players/ members at Qattar Doha besides Germany and France recently. The recent incident of harassment to Sikh Basket ball player at Doha for removing his turban/ patka on the name of security is matter of serious concern. He alleged that UNO officials refused to accept their memorandum. Mr Singh said if the UNO is least bothered about the miseries of the public, it should stop its office in J&K.
