Srinagar, Aug 14: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has asked the State Government to conduct elections for the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees across the State before the coming assembly elections. The committee has said delay in the conduct of elections has undermined importance of Sikh Endowment Act.
In a statement issued here, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that Sikh community is feeling dejected as administrative inertia has taken toll on the conduct of elections.
Raina said that due to political interference authorities are not serious for conducting SGPC elections despite the fact that these elections have not been held since 2003.
The APSCC Chairman demanded proper management of religious institutions should be given priority by government in order to thwart efforts of unscrupulous elements.
The APSCC Chairman said that Deputy Commissioners should take immediate steps to conduct elections on September 15 this year, as notified by Financial Commissioner. He said if the authorities pull up their socks still the elections can be held before state assembly elections.
