Sikh bodies resent hate remarks on Facebook

JAMMU, Mar 30: Baba Banda Singh Bahadur International Awareness Group, Sikh Youth Welfare Front, Sikh Noujawan Sabha and several other Sikh bodies of Jammu have strongly condemned the acts of a few hate-mongers on face book against the Sikh religion and the Gurus besides Sikh history and demanded stern action against all such communal elements who have tried to disturb the peace in the region.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Sikh youth leaders along with Sikh preachers disclosed that they will start awareness campaign with the cooperation of State Gurudwara Prabandhak Board (SGPB), DGPC Jammu, Sikh Intellectuals and all the Panthak organizations, in entire Jammu region for protecting religion and exposing the anti-Sikh forces in the region.
They claimed that one Deepak Thakur of Jammu, presently based in Malaysia was posting derogatory remarks against Sikh religion on Facebook. Some vigilant Sikh youths after downloading the entire details approached DGPC Jammu and after joint sitting with Harjinder Singh, secretary DGPC Jammu, Narinder Singh Khalsa, chairman Sikh Intellectual Circles J&K, Manjit Singh, (Ex- Secretary DGPC), Manmohan Singh (DGPC cashier) and Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, the entire matter was brought to the notice of SSP Jammu on March 28. With the timely action of Jammu Police and especially, that of SP South (Incharge Cyber Cell), not only FIR was lodged but some of the associates of main culprit were also arrested from different parts of Jammu and it has saved the situation from further worsening as strong resentment is prevailing among the Sikh community members.
They said that community is proud to be Sikhs because a large number of Sikhs sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom struggle. 9th Guru Teg Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life to protect Hindus and others moreover, Sikhs contribute huge amount towards Income Tax being only 2.4% in India. More than 59000 Gurudwaras are serving free langar (food) to nearly 5,90,0000 people irrespective of caste, colour and creed in India.
They cautioned the people to beware of such mischief mongers and avoid sharing such objectionable material.
Ajit Pal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurjeet Singh, Parduman Singh, Hardeep Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Amandeep Singh were among those present.
