JAMMU, Nov 23: Various Sikh organizations have demanded implementation of Anand Marriage Act in the J&K State and declaring holiday on Martyrdom Day of Guru Teg Bahadur.
In a joint meeting of the Management Committee of Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, Jain Bazar; Nirvair Social organization, Gurudwara Charan Kamal Asthan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Ser Manjila, Desh Bahagat Yaadgar Committee, Virasat-e-Khalsa, Bhai Kanhayia Jee Nishkam Seva Dal, held here under the presidium of Sukhbir Singh, Mohan Singh and Sukhdev Singh (heads of bodies), the members discussed the problems being faced by the Sikh community especially for registration of marriages.
While speaking on the occasion, Sukhbir Singh said that after the introduction of Anand Marriage Act in several other States of India, the Act has now also been implemented in two Union Territories of India. He added that notably the Anand Marriage Act-2012 was implemented by the State Governments of Haryana, Jharkhand, Himachal Pardesh, Orissa, Meghalaya, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram recently. He appealed the State Government to implement this Act without further delay on the same analogy of other State Governments. He further added that with the implementation of the Act in these States, Sikhs residing there can get their marriages registered under this Act and this will be especially helpful to those Sikhs who travel abroad.
The members further demanded that the J&K Govt should declare holiday on the Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Teg Bahudur Ji Maharaj and reconstruction of historical Gurudwara Charan Kamal Asthan Guru Dev Ji Ser Manjila which was damaged by the anti-social elements in 1984. The Revenue authorities should immediately allot the land so that 500 years old monuments could be restored. They also demanded that Gurudwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar be declared as historical place and put on the tourist map.
