JAMMU, July 6: Various Sikh organizations have urged upon the State Government to declare holiday for the Sikh Government/ PSU employees on July 8 in view of the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) elections.
Addressing joint press conference here today, Dayal Singh Wazir, president Shiromani Akali Dal, J&K; Gajan Singh general secretary Sikh Welfare Society; Mohinder Singh, chief organizer BKNSS; Prof Hardev Singh, Chairman Sikh Intellectual Forum and Paramjeet Singh from AISSF appealed the State Government to issue an order to declare holiday for the Sikh employees/ workers on July 8, 2015, so that they could exercise their democratic right to participate in the DGPC elections.
They pointed out that these elections are being held after the long period of 13 years and that too, with the intervention of High Court as some vested interests were causing delay in this process. Majority of the community members wish that good and clean image candidates should be elected for rendering their services at these religious places.
They issued appeal to all the Sikh community members to support the candidates having blessings from Mahant Manjeet Singh ji of Dera Bangla Sahib, Poonch. They also declared the names of eleven candidates who have jumped into the fray with the support of Dera Nangali Sahib. They also stressed for the transparency in the functioning of all the DGPCs in the State.
