SIA conducts multiple raids in Kashmir

Foreign currency, cell phones, laptops seized

Srinagar, Feb 3: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) today carried out raids at multiple locations in connection with a militancy-funding case in Srinagar.
The SIA sleuths conducted raids in Parimpora, Jawahar Nagar, Natipora, Chhanapora, Bulbul Bagh and Qamarwari areas of Srinagar city this morning. The SIA was accompanied by the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during these raids which lasted for several hours.
The raids were conducted at the houses of Fareeda Begum wife of Late Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bulbul-Bagh Barzulla, Srinagar; Zubair Ahmad and Zuhaib Ahmad sons Mohammad Ramzan Bhat residents of Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar; Waseem Ahmad Magray and his brother Anwar Bashir sons of Bashir Ahmad Magray, residents of Tawheed Colony Natipora, Srinagar.
An official said that incriminating materials were recovered during the raids. He said that currency notes of some foreign countries, cell phones, laptops and some documents were also seized during the raids on the basis of which further investigations would be conducted.
The official said that the names of these persons surfaced during the investigations of various militancy fundings cases for which raids were conducted by the SIA across Kashmir during the last one and a half year. He said that today’s raids were conducted after the agency got a lot of evidence about their alleged involvement in the funding of militancy.
Earlier, the raids were also carried out in South Kashmir including Anantnag, Awantipora, Kupwara, Baramulla and some other locations too. Srinagar has witnessed many raids in the last one and a half years.
The funds have been pumped into militancy in Kashmir through hawala channels and youths are being recruited by using this money besides transportation of arms and ammunition and militants for carrying out subversive activities.
