SI lands into police lock-up

SAMBA, Aug 28: Incharge PP Supwal, Sub Inspector, Neeraj Kumar who went absconding to avoid his arrest for over a month now for letting off a prisoner for a night to make a murderous assault on his uncle landed in lock up today after a Police team of Samba succeeded in arresting him.
Supwal Police had arrested one Daleep Kumar alias Deepa in mid July last for assaulting his uncle over a land dispute. During the night of July 14 and 15, police let off him to attack his uncle again. Deepa along with his accomplice straight way visited to the shop of his uncle Inderjeet Choudhary and attacked him with sharp edged weapons who received grievous injuries and fell unconscious. Taking him dead Deepa returned to the Police Post.
The Incharge PP and Munshi, who were involved in the conspiracy of letting off Deepa, however, said that he was in police custody during the time of episode. They misled the senior officers saying that some outsiders have attacked Inderjeet.
After Inderjeet Choudhary who was shifted by his wife and other family members to Hospital, said in his statement that he was assaulted by Deepa and his two accomplices with sharp edged weapons inflicting grievous injuries on his person, police started investigation.
When the issue was brought before the IGP Jammu, he placed S I Neeraj Kumar who was booked under Cr PC 307, Munshi Kulbir Singh and Constable Mohammed Haneef under suspension, pending inquiry.
Following the official action and apprehending his arrest, SI Neeraj Kumar went underground. To effect his arrest a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by IGP Jammu. The SIT was headed by Additional SP Samba Mohammed, Adil, DySP, Tanvir Ahmed and SHO PS Samba, Yashpal Singh Jamwal.
The team questioned his relatives and also raided his various hideouts, said SHO Samba Jamwal. He said on a tip off today, police succeeded in arresting him and putting him in police lock up.
He said during the absconding period police also tried to seek permission to declare him as proclaimed offender under law. He said Munshi Kulbir Singh and constable Mohamed Haneef have been placed under suspension as they too are accused in the case.
Meanwhile, the relatives of Inderjeet Choudhary held a protest demonstration and blocked the National Highway at Samba this morning demanding the arrest of SI immediately. They alleged that the police was adopting delaying tactics in the matter.
Later, DC Samba Sheetal Nanda and SSP Samba Anil Magotra visited the spot and pacified the agitating people. The DC and SSP assured them that the culprit will be arrested soon. On their assurance, the protestors dispersed.
