SI, BSF, CRPF jawans, Govt teacher among 13 more succumb to virus

JAMMU, Sept 29: A Sub Inspector posted in Security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police, a young Government teacher, one CRPF Havaldar of 25th battalion, a BSF jawan and an Ambulance driver of the Health Department were among 13 persons who lost their lives to COVID-19 while 640 new cases, nearly half of them in Jammu district alone, were reported in the Jammu region including 14 workers of two companies working for Railways in Ramban, 12 employees in the office of PWD Samba, three more prisoners in the District Jail Kathua, two police personnel posted at Lakhanpur Police Station and four BSF jawans in Poonch while 615 patients recovered today.
A 57-year-old Sub Inspector posted in Security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police and a resident of Mishriwalla on the outskirts of Jammu City died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu where he was admitted since September 18 due to Coronavirus this morning. He was posted on Security duty at Circuit House Canal Road.
A 30-year-old Government teacher from Galhuta Mendhar in Poonch district died at Narayana Hospital Katra where she was under treatment for the virus, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral told the Excelsior.
Forty-two year-old CRPF Havaldar deployed in 25th battalion and a resident of Uttarakhand succumbed to Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu. He had no co-morbidity.
A 41-year-old BSF jawan posted in Rajouri district and hailing from Bangalore, Karnataka died of the virus in the GMC Rajouri this morning, SSP Chandan Kohli said and added that family of the victim is reaching Rajouri tomorrow for cremations as per the COVID protocol.
An 80-year-old man from Channi Himmat, 65-year-old male from Sector 1 Trikuta Nagar, 59-year-old woman from Paloura Top and 62-year-old man from Ward No. 5 Simbal Camp, all in Jammu district, died in the GMC Jammu and Narayana Hospital Katra today due to ailments and COVID-19.
An Ambulance driver of the Health Department died of Coronavirus in Reasi district this afternoon.
Three deaths were reported from Udhampur district including an 83-year-old man from Panama Morh Kud in Chenani tehsil, 77-year-old male from Adarsh Colony and 86-year-old from Udhampur town. They died in the GMC Jammu and Narayana Hospital Katra due to multiple ailments and pathogen.
A 65-year-old woman from Darshipora in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district succumbed to the virus at home.
Jammu region’s death toll due to Corona has gone up to 333 including 180 in Jammu district, 31 Rajouri, 27 Doda, 21 Kathua, 20 Samba, 18 Udhampur, 13 Poonch, 10 Ramban, seven Kishtwar and six in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, 313 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu district including 305 locals and eight travelers out of a total of 640 in the region.
As many as 120 persons reported positive in Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) in Jammu district including six from Mini Township Jagti Nagrota, 33 from CRPF Group Camp Nagrota, three Drug Controller Office Patoli, two in the office of Executive Engineer PHE Mechanical Division Gandhi Nagar and three from District Jail Ambphalla. In the rural areas, five persons tested positive in Akhnoor, one each Bishnah and Dansal, three each Kot Bhalwal and Marh, two Pallanwalla and four Sohanjana.
Among 29 Corona positive cases in Kathua district, two were constables posted at Lakhanpur Police Station, three more prisoners of District Jail, an official of Deputy CMO office and a BSF jawan from Nagri Camp, Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said.
With today’s three positives, a total of 47 prisoners have been infected by the virus in the District Jail Kathua.
Samba district reported 44 Coronavirus cases today. Of them, 12 were employees of Public Works Department (PWD) Samba.
Twenty eight new positive cases were reported from Ramban district. They include eight workers of Age Patel Construction Company and six of IRCON who were working for the Railways and eight CRPF personnel, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Udhampur district recorded 49 cases today, four of whom were Government employees-two from Health Department, one of the Forest Department and a safai karamchari. As many as 15 new cases were today reported from Majalata and 13 from Ramnagar.
Of 34 new cases in Doda district, two were MBBS and ISM doctors while Poonch district reported 21 fresh cases including four BSF jawans.
Among 15 positives of Reasi district, five were police personnel and two Health professionals.
Out of 38 Corona cases in Rajouri, 13 belonged to Rajouri town, 12 Kalakote, seven Thanna Mandi, three Sunderbani, two Kandi and one Darhal.
All 46 positive cases in Kishtwar districts were locals.
As many as 615 Corona patients today recovered from the virus after testing negative, the highest being 300 in Jammu district, 59 Poonch, 44 Kishtwar, 43 Doda, 41 Kathua, 40 Udhampur, 39 Samba, 28 Ramban and 21 in Rajouri district.
Jammu region now has 28703 Corona cases. Of them, 10175 are active positives while 18197 have recovered and there were 333 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 43 new cases—39 in Leh and four in Kargil district.
Ladakh now has 4195 Corona cases. Of them, 1030 are active while 3107 have recovered from the virus.
Death toll due to COVID-19 in Ladakh stood at 58 – 24 Leh and 34 Kargil.
