SI beaten up by accused’s family, 3 women arrested

RAJOURI,  July 30:  A Sub Inspector of  J&K Police was seriously injured after he was attacked by family members  and relatives of a youth, whom the police party had gone to arrest at village Saj in Thannamandi last night.
Official sources said that a police party from Chowki Chora (Akhnoor), led by SI Ravi Kumar and four cops  had gone to arrest a wanted accused  Tariq  Mehmood, son of Mohd Kabir at Saj village in Thannamandi at around 10  pm. The police party arrested the accused and they were bringing him to Rajouri  in a hired vehicle.  About  a  dozen family members and relatives of  Tariq, chased the police vehicle in two separate vehicles and  intercepted on the way. They attacked police party with lathis and stones. While the cops and accused managed to escape, the  SI was caught by  relatives and severely beaten up. Later,  they escaped after partially damaging the vehicle.
Thannamandi police arrived the spot after coming to know about the matter and shifted the SI to hospital at Rajouri. He was referred to GMC Hospital Jammu during midnight.  The police registered a case FIR No. 85/ 2017 against four identified accused and others, under sections  307, 341, 332, 225 B, 147, 353, 148 and 358 RPC at Thannamandi Police Station.
The police arrested three women namely Gulnaz Parveen, wife of Mohd Bashir, Sonia, wife of Tariq Mehmood, Abida Kouser, wife of Basharat Hussain. Accused and his brother Basharat, were absconding. The police said that some other accused have also been identified. Raids were being conducted to arrest them also.
Tariq Mehmood was wanted by Chowki Chora police in FIR No. 130/ 2017. His Eco vehicle had been detected on a camera during the offence few days back. He was booked  under  two sections but he has now been booked along with others  under eight more sections for the attack on the police party and murderous attack on Police officer.
