SI among 4 injured in protests

JAMMU, June 3: People of a community today held protests and blocked road at Rani Bagh near Gadigarh in protest against removal of flex hoarding by the police.
Police said the people had put up provocative flex hoarding at Rani Bagh, which was removed by them this morning to ensure peace in the area. However, the people protested on removal of the hoarding and took out procession and blocked road at Gadigarh bridge this afternoon shouting slogans.
Some of the youths in the procession turned violent and started pelting stones on the police personnel. Someone from the procession stabbed Incharge Gadigarh Police Post Sub Inspector Arun Sharma, causing him serious injuries. In the stone pelting, SHO Satwari Inspector Kulbir Singh Choudhary, Bharat Singh, Havaldar and Parvez Ahmad, constable were also injured.
Arun Sharma was admitted to the Government Medical College, Jammu and was operated upon for ruptured intestines.
Senior officers of civil and police administration rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to lift road blockade. The people dispersed at about 4.30 pm.
Police have registered case in connection with stabbing of the Sub Inspector. However, no arrests have been made so far.
