Shutdown in Lal Chowk, south Kashmir parts

SRINAGAR, Jan 21: Shutdown was observed in Lal Chowk and in parts of South Kashmir against the 1990 Gow Kadal killings and killing of a militant and a civilian .
All the shops and commercial establishments were closed in Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas but traffic was plying normally. The call for shutdown was given by several separatist amalgams and groups to remember the victims of January 21, 1990 Gow Kadal killings.
A rally was taken out by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists and supporters from Maisuma. The rally, which was led by JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, concluded at Basant Bagh here before being addressed by him and other leaders.
Later, the youth and security forces clashed with each other at Maisuma briefly. The police fired teargas and pepper gas shells towards stone-throwing protesters. The situation however returned to normal after an hour.
Meanwhile, a partial shutdown was also observed in the parts of south Kashmir against killing of a militant and a civilian.
