Shutdown, clashes in Pulwama

Srinagar, Mar 11:  For the third consecutive day, shutdown and clashes continued in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against recent militant and civilian killings during which one youth was injured after being hit by a teargas shell in his head.
Though there was no call for strike, the shops and commercial establishments remained closed in Pulwama district areas including in Main Town since morning hours. The public transport was also severely affected due to the spontaneous shutdown.
In Tahab and Koil villages of the district, intense stone-throwing clashes erupted between youth and security forces and continued intermittently throughout the day. Police fired dozens of teargas canisters towards the stone-throwers at both these places in a bid to disperse them.
However, the stone-throwers continued pelting stones and during the clashes at Koil, one youth was hit by a teargas canister in his head. A police official said that the youth has been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment and added that his condition is stable. Meanwhile, normal life in other parts of Kashmir resumed after Friday’s shutdown.
