Shutdown against youth’s death

Srinagar, July 27: A spontaneous shutdown was observed in Maisuma and its adjoining areas of the city centre today against the death of a teenage youth.
Body of 16-year old Owais Ahmad Fuffo of Mandar Bagh neighbourhood of Gaw Kadal area was recovered from Jhelum at Shadipora area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district yesterday. The youth had gone missing on July 18.
The residents of Maisuma and Gaw Kadal staged massive protests against the “mysterious” death of the youth and have demanded probe. The locals on yesterday and today clashed with security men at Maisuma.
The markets of the city centre including at Maisuma, Koker Bazar, Budshah Chowk, Court Road, Ghanta Ghar and Exchange Road were shut while as the authorities had placed additional number of police and CRPF personal to tackle the law and order problem.
The security forces imposed strict restrictions in Maisuma on the movement of civilians after clashes and detained an alleged stone-pelter.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani has demanded a probe into the death of the youth.
