SRINAGAR, Dec 31: Normal life was hit as a shutdown on the call of separatists was observed in Kashmir valley today.
Majority of shops, business establishments and fuel stations were closed in summer capital here but private and public transport remained largely unaffected. Authorities had deployed contingents of security forces in downtown areas and also in sensitive areas of civil line to maintain law and order.
The shutdown was also observed in other districts of the Valley but the traffic on inter-district routes plied smoothly. Although no major incident of -violence was reported from any part of the Valley but stone-pelting clashes between youth and security forces erupted at HMT on Srinagar city outskirts and in Muslim Peer locality of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a police official said here.
