JAMMU, Jan 14: Governor Satya Pal Malik today called upon the militants to shun the path of violence and join national mainstream saying the administration will take all steps for their rehabilitation but maintained that if terrorists fired or lobbed explosive devices at security forces, they won’t retaliate with flowers or bouquets.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here this afternoon, Malik said the militants will achieve nothing by indulging in violence and it was better for them to leave this path and come to the mainstream, where the administration will take steps for their rehabilitation. Asserting that there was nothing like ‘Operation All Out’ and some people were using this wrong term, the Governor said the Government wants these children (militants) to come back to national mainstream after surrender and we are ready to do what we can do for them”.
Responding to a question on the call by some politicians to stop ‘Operation All Out’, and an inquiry into the killings in the Kashmir valley, he maintained that if a militant opens firing on security forces and lob an explosive device towards them, the troops are not expected to offer him flower or bouquets.
“On our side, we do not have any ‘Operation All Out’. They (militants) should leave this path as they will achieve nothing from this,” Malik said.
On National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement that if his party is elected to power in the upcoming Assembly elections, it would establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to probe killings in the State, Malik said he is stating something new every day.
“He is a senior politician so commenting on him is not good,” the Governor added.
Malik said mainstream politicians have political compulsions and “in our country one can go to any extent for a vote”.
“They are all political people and have political compulsions. For a vote, the people go too far in this country. I understand the compulsions of everybody and honour them,” he said when asked about statements made by some politicians recently.
On holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Governor reiterated that the administration was ready for conduct of the democratic exercise.
“We are ready for polls. When the Election Commission takes a decision, we will hold the elections,” he said.
“We are being demonized across the country that everything here is wrong. But I can say with authority that Jammu and Kashmir is far ahead from many of the States in the country,” Malik said.
While taking a dig at National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, albeit without naming him, that he comes out with a new statement every day and that politicians can go to any extent for the sake of votes, Malik, however, was all praise for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying he is a no non-sense CM and after coming to power has almost finished crime in Bihar.
The Governor’s remarks on Nitish Kumar assumed significance as few days back Malik had stated that more people are murdered in a day at Patna in Bihar than total number of persons killed in Kashmir in a week. He described Nitish Kumar “as an example of honesty and morality”.
“Nitish Kumar ji is a no non-sense CM. After his coming to power in Bihar, crime has almost finished. Bihar has done a lot of work in skill development. I want to tell all other politicians if you want to learn honesty and morality in politics, you must learn from Nitish Kumar,” Malik, who was Governor of Bihar before being shifted to Jammu and Kashmir in August last year as replacement of NN Vohra, said.
Asserting that he has good personal relations with Nitish Kumar, he said all syndicates and mafias of crime have been wiped out in Bihar by him and if any incident takes place in that State, it is purely due to personal rivalry.
